Konstellate is built by its contributors. We pay on acceptance, edit hard, and pair every piece with interactive figures wherever they belong. Here is what we publish, what we pay, and how it works.
Read recent pieces in each before pitching. If your idea straddles two departments, pitch to the one that's closer; we'll route it ourselves.
Long-form expositions. Theorems, fields, mathematicians, the history of a single problem. Make us believe a topic matters before you make us understand it.
A single problem with its full solution. Olympiad, Putnam, original. Bonus for solutions that make the reader's pulse rise — a slick lemma, an unexpected substitution.
Mathematics found where you didn't expect it. A queue, a coral reef, a poll, a meander. We want first-person observation, not survey.
Conversations with working mathematicians. Pitch the person, not the field; we'll help you find the field once you've found the voice.
Books, papers, software, conferences. Take a position. Tell us what's true about the work, then tell us what you think.
We are always open to formats we have not yet invented. A short comic, a generative essay, an annotated proof. Pitch it as “Other” and tell us what you're imagining.
We try to make the process boring in the best way: predictable timelines, real edits, no ghosting.
A pitch is one to three paragraphs. What is the piece, who is the reader, why now. If you have a single sentence we are likely to quote in the printed teaser, include it.
We read every pitch. We accept perhaps one in seven. Rejection is a yes-to-something-else; we will tell you what worked and what didn't.
Once a piece is in, you'll be paired with an editor and (for anything with figures) one of our visualisations team. Expect two to four full passes.
Pieces appear on the web on publication day; the print edition follows quarterly. Rates above. Kill fees: 30%. We retain web rights; you keep everything else.
Ten days to a response. We respond to every pitch. If yours fits, an editor will pick it up and write back with a draft schedule.
